Norwood Life Care Foundation's Annual Holiday Appeal

Dear Friends,
My late mother, Patricia lived to 100 years old. Having lost her husband and needing a bit more care, she moved to Norwood Crossing in her 90s. Our family was thrilled to see her thrive in this supportive, homelike and caring community. She made dear friends and engaged in activities she loved. Her favorites were Poetry Circle (she was a founding member!), piano performances, fun games like Bingo and Gutsy Dice, and regular events like the Art & Fashion Shows, the Annual Picnic, and parties with live entertainment.
That’s why I support the Norwood Life Care Foundation. Our nonprofit mission of enhancing the independence and well-being of our elderly loved ones like Patricia is made possible by our generous friends. Your gift to our 2024 Holiday Appeal will help us continue serving seniors as we have done for 129 years!
In fact, through the generosity of people like you, we served more than 1,800 seniors and provided $5.7 million in charitable care last year. Funds raised by the Norwood Life Care Foundation support the seniors we serve at Norwood Crossing, Norwood Seniors Network, norVOLution and the Norwood Park Senior Center.
Donations to the Norwood Life Care Foundation provide:
- Programs not covered by fees, such as the services of a chaplain and Norwood Crossing’s popular Arts Therapy programs, including Patricia’s favorite Poetry Circle, spring Art Shows and fall Fashion Shows;
- Maintenance and improvements to our buildings and campus, like the apartment upgrades that made Patricia feel at home;
- And charitable care for seniors who outlive their resources, an important tenet of our nonprofit mission that allows our elders to enjoy their lives without worry.
Please join me in supporting seniors this holiday season by being a part of our 2024 Holiday Appeal.
Wishing you and your family a very happy 2025.

Resident Donor Spotlight
We’re so thankful to those of you who have already contributed to our Giving Tuesday and 2024 Holiday Appeals! You make a difference at this Giving time of year by helping provide valuable programs, services and benevolent care to Norwood Crossing’s senior residents and Norwood Seniors Network’s senior clients.

Meet Lowell. Lowell has lived at Norwood Crossing for 8 years after moving with his wife from central Illinois to be closer to their daughter. Lowell wears many hats here: resident, donor, volunteer and all-around expert. Lowell is a retired University of Illinois Biology professor and keeps very busy continuing research on various subjects – currently detailing Civil War Naval battles - and building up U of I’s academic archives with his findings. Ask him anything; he is a fount of information!
Lowell enjoys his roomy apartment at Norwood Crossing and getting to know his fellow residents and their histories. He also likes the parties with live entertainment and says this year’s October Fest was really great. Lowell especially appreciates the staff members here and, ever the academic, encourages them to continue their educations. Lowell is very proud of former Norwood CNAs who are now enrolled in or graduating from Nursing school – and so are we!
Lowell is also active in the greater Norwood neighborhood. He walks at least 2 miles every morning and has made friends with children and their parents going to the grammar school across the street and with neighbors heading to the commuter train. He also volunteers with a local sewing group to iron “little dresses for Africa.” He says he likes “contributing to make little kids happy.”
Contributing is a way of life for Lowell. He supports the Norwood Life Care Foundation, saying “if my donations help out the programs and services, and I’m able to do it, I like to help.”
We are grateful to Lowell and all the donors who support our nonprofit mission. If you haven’t donated yet to our Holiday Appeal, there’s still time to join the fun. You’ll support a very good cause and touch the lives of so many.
